Archive & History Center Student Assistant Job Description

General Summary: The University of Minnesota Morris Archives and West Central Minnesota Historical Research Center is a duel
facility that holds historical materials both from the region and the college. The archive assistant keeps regularly scheduled
hours, helps maintain and organize the collection, performs basic archival responsibilities and works with students and other patrons.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Staff the archives area of the library
2. Accession archival materials according to archival standards
3. Shelve and retrieve materials
4. Assist onsite patrons with research (onsite, phone and online queries)
5. Fill online and in-person requests for copies and transcripts
6. Work with library and other professional staff in developing and implementing special projects.
This would include image data base development and work with special collections
7. File materials and perform general office maintenance
Minimum/Essential Qualifications Needed to Perform Job:
Ability to work according to an established schedule, basic computer skills, attention to detail, ability to
work without close supervision, organizational skills, ability to lift and move heavy boxes, ability to work with the public,
some understanding of historical research methods and approaches, ability to solve problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Interest in historical methods, research or museum studies.
