UMM Digital Image Collections Internship

General Summary:

This intern position will play a key role in creating and maintaining a digital image database containing photos of the past and present campus. This project is a collaborative effort of many departments and this position will work with three of these units: Media Services, Briggs Library and University Relations.

The two major aspects of the experience are working with Media Services to select photos that are currently in digital form and working with Briggs Library and University Relations to gather the information needed to populate the metadata fields in the database. The first aspect involves selection of photos of aesthetic and technical quality as well as appropriate subjects. The second aspect involves studying existing campus materials and interviewing individuals to ensure that correct and complete descriptive information is provided for each photo.

The student will benefit from the technical skills learned, the interpersonal experiences involved and the data gathering startegies devised. There is an opportunity to provide enrichment experiences for a number of career aspirations.
