Interlibrary Loan Student Assistant I

Date: April 14, 2008

Pay rate: $7.10 per hour
Supervisor: Sandy Kill

General Summary:

Interlibrary Loan student workers play a very significant and essential role in the efficient daily operations of the Interlibrary Loan Department. They provide support for the Interlibrary Loan Manager and are responsible for processing interlibrary loans at every level.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Unpack courier totes and open mail
2) Pull item request slips
3) Print book bands and notices
4) Place book bands on items and prepare notices for mailing
5) Package and place articles at Circulation Desk for pickup
6) Perform filing duties
7) Pull returns from Circulation Desk
8) Pull slips and process return paperwork
9) Package mail-back returns
10) Download lending requests from OCLC
11) Verify, pull items from Briggs shelves, and photocopy when necessary
12) Update requests in management software to print book bands
13) Place book bands on books to be loaned and prepare items for mailing
14) Miscellaneous duties assigned by supervisor

Minimum/Essential Qualifications Needed to Perform Job:

Willingness and ability to work an established schedule; attention to detail; ability to use computers and interlibrary loan software and system; keyboarding skills; ability to work without close supervision; dependability; good communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to problem solve; willingness to work closely with other students.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous library or service position experience

General Summary:

Interlibrary Loan student workers play a very significant and essential role in the efficient daily operations of the Interlibrary Loan Department and provide support for the Interlibrary Loan Manager. This position has the additional responsibility for essential steps in verifying requests and transmitting UMM requests to lending libraries.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1) All responsibilities associated with the Interlibrary Loan Assistant I position.
2) Download incoming borrowing requests from OCLC and e-mail accounts
3) Verify requests and identify supplier libraries for borrowing requests
4) Enter, edit, and transmit borrowing requests in OCLC
5) Upload requests from OCLC to management support software
6) Update pertinent patron data
7) File requests

Minimum/Essential Qualifications Needed to Perform Job:

Willingness and ability to work an established schedule; attention to detail; ability to use computers and interlibrary loan software and system; excellent keyboarding skills; ability to work without close supervision; dependability; good communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instruction; ability to problem solve; willingness to work closely with other students.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least one year of prior Briggs Library Interlibrary Loan Assistant experience
