General Reference Resources

There are many all-around reference sites. Several of the best are listed below.

AllRefer.com: An all purpose reference guide of information. Searchable by subject and keyword. Also includes an encyclopedia and gazetteer.

Bartleby Reference: From encyclopedias to dictionaries, thesauri to gazeteers, and history to Shakespeare, this unbelievably free resource has it, and more.

Digital Librarian: Created and maintained by a librarian offering a wide variety of quality reference web resources organized alphabetically.

Refdesk: A commercial site that offers dictionaries, almanacs, news, a converter, and hundreds of other useful links covering nearly every subject.

The following resources offer a wide array of images. Google Images offers the largest collection. The New York Public Library Digital Gallery allows you to s search, view, print or download over 275,000 images in a variety of subjects from the Middle Ages to the twentiet century. The Smithsonian's Galaxy of Images provides access to thousands of digitally reproduced images from the museum's collection.
