Wireless Printing

To print to the cash printer behind the circulation desk via your laptop you must first add the printer to your computer. Refer to the directions below to add the library cash printer to your XP operating system. (Vista operating systems may require extra/different steps. This could include starting by going to Control Panel, choosing Printers, and then Add Printer).

1) First, click on the "Start" menu and select "Printers and Faxes". (If it is not listed, click "Control Panel" and find it in there).

2) On the left side of the screen there will be a heading called Printer Tasks. Click "Add Printer". (Otherwise right-click on a blank area of the window and select add printer). A new window should pop up, click "Next".

3) Select "Local Printer Attached to this Computer". Make sure that the option "Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer" is unchecked. Click "Next".

4) On the next screen, select "Create a New Port". Select "Standard TPC/IP Port" from the drop down menu next to the Create a new port option. Click "Next".

5) A window welcoming you to TCP/IP Printer setup will appear, click "Next" to continue.

6) In the field titled "Printer Name or IP Address:" you need to type "lib220hp8000.morris.umn.edu" (without quotes). The field below titled "Port Name" will automatically fill in. Click "Next".

7) If a screen appears titled Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard" appears go to to the drop down menu where it says "Generic Network Card" and find "Hewlett Packard Jet Direct" and select it and click "Next". (This step may or may not be necessary, if the window with the indicated title does not appear, go to Step 9).

8) A new window appears listing the printer port information. Click "Finish".

9) Now a window titled "Add Printer Wizard" should appear with two lists. Under the "Manufacturer" list, select HP. Under the "Printer" list select HP LaserJet 8000 series PCL or HP LaserJet 8000 series PS. Click "Next".

10) The next page will ask you to name the printer and if you want to set the printer as the default printer. Pick a name and option as desired. Click "Next".

11) A page will appear asking if you would like to print a test page. Select "Yes" to ensure that the printer was correctly installed. Click " Next".

12) A new page listing the printer name, port, and other information will appear. Click "Finish".

13) A small window will appear informing you that a test page has been sent to the printer. Click "OK"" if a test page has been printed.

The Circulation Cash Printer should now be installed on your computer and should appear under your drop down menu of available printers as the name you chose to assign it when you wish to print a document. If you need assistance please ask at the circulation or reference desk.
