Equipment Distribution
Instructional & Media Technologies maintains a pool of audio, video and presentation equipment for instructional and institutional use. Equipment is checked out on a first come/first serve basis. Classroom use has top priority.
Computer/Technology Help Desk
General computing and technology help is available by phone (320-589-6150), Email, or walk-in at the Computer/Technology Help Desk. Located in HFA 123, staff are available to assist you and public access computers are available for use in this location as well.
Media Production
Faculty, staff and students can receive assistance in producing video projects, audio programs and presentations free of charge, excluding materials, for classroom or educational use. Instructional & Media Technologies houses two television studios, Media 100 non-linear editing system and remote equipment.
Interactive Television
Instructional & Media Technologies maintains four local interactive television (ITV) sites which connect to two ITV networks: University of Minnesota network and the Southwest Education Organization for Telecommunications network (SHOT). The UM network connects campuses in Morris, Duluth, Crookston, Rochester and Twin Cities, while SHOT joins a statewide network of higher education institutions.
Instructional Technology & Design
Instructional & Media Technologies supports the academic mission of the University of Minnesota Morris by helping instructors find innovative ways to use technology to achieve their teaching goals. Staff are active participants in a range of scholarly communities and professional organizations and possess a variety of skills and talents to help serve your instructional technology needs. The Instructional Technology Lab, where faculty, staff, and students may come for individual and small group instruction is located in HFA 35.
Multimedia and WWW Production
Instructional & Media Technologies provides graphic design, image file conversion, image scanning and video and audio digitization for creating multimedia and world-wide-web projects. Instructional & Media Technologies utilizes RealProducer from Real Networks for video and audio digitization and can create streaming media files from videotape or shoot custom video for your project.
Photography and Slide Production
Full-color slides can be created from many computer software drawing packages including Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop. A lasergraphics film recorder has been purchased by Instructional & Media Technologies through the UMM Technology Fee which creates slides from the Windows operating system and Apple Macintosh platforms. Copyright laws do apply.
CD/DVD Creation
Creation of audio and data (text, pictures, etc.)Compact Disks is available, as well as video and data Digital Video Disks. Copyright laws do apply.
Tape/DVD Duplication
Duplication of 1/4" reel-to-reel, audio cassettes, 3/4" U-matic, S-VHS, VHS, Mini-DV, and DVD is available. Copyright laws do apply. Instructional & Media Technologies also provides catalogued storage of master videotapes owned by individual departments.
Off-Air Television Recording
Instructional & Media Technologies can legally record broadcast programs for classroom use when appropriate copyright permission is obtained by the requestor. Assistance can be provided by staff to instructors interested in gaining copyright clearance necessary to keep a permanent copy of the program. |
