Television Production
The University of Minnesota Morris, Media Services Department supports and maintains two television studios located in Humanities-Fine Arts Center. Studio A is used primarily for University-related production. Studio B is the student television lab and is used solely as a laboratory for two communications classes and non-communication student special projects. Both television studios contain three studio cameras with separate control rooms, full audio support, lighting grids and hard cycs. Video formats supported throughout Media Services include DVC-PRO and SVHS.

Studio B
Students working on special class projects or are enrolled in courses offered through the Speech Communications discipline are able to use Studio B, the campus television production laboratory. This studio is based around three newly acquired Panasonic AG-250 video cameras on top of Bogan tripods. A six-input Panasonic video switcher is used during live production, along with graphics and full audio capabilities.
The newest acquisition in Studio B is a Media 100 non-linear editing system. This model LE system is available on a schedule-basis only. This system is built around an Apple Power Macintosh G3 system, and is integrated with 18 GB of hard drive space. Scheduling for this system is arranged through Media Services main office. |

Master Control
All video production systems are routed into Master Control, the electronic hub of Media Services. Inside Master Control, all signal distribution for both studios, control rooms, the campus cable television system, Interactive Television (ITV) classrooms and Master Control post production are performed here. A microwave link between Media Services and Pioneer Public Television, Appleton, Minn. is also available in Master Control.
Master Control also contains a modern post production facility. Both linear (tape-to-tape) editing and non-linear editing systems (computer-based) are available. Again, Media 100 is the non-linear system of choice. This model XS system is built around a lightening-fast 450 MHz Power Macintosh G4 Tower with 72 GB of hard drive storage capability. Other systems in Master Control include Pinnacle Aladdin DVE, Panasonic DVC-PRO video decks, Panasonic and Sony SVHS decks, Mackie sound mixer and Fostex DAT audio recorder/player. |

Media Lab
Media Services now offers a fully functional media lab for use by students and staff. It is located in the basement of HFA, room 26. It features 12 Apple computers designed for audio, video, and photo editing. It is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM and on Fridays from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (during the academic year).
Recently, Media Services purchased 6 brand new Apple G5 computers to replace the older model G4s. With these new computers came Mac OS 10.4, Tiger, which means we needed to upgrade all our computers and server. With this server upgrade, we are also adding Adobe® Creative Suite, Dreamweaver, and Vector Works to all lab computers. The new G5s also come equiped with Superdrives, allowing students and staff to design and burn their own DVDs right in the lab. |
