Country-Rock Group Emerson Drive in Concert at UMM

If you watch country music videos or listen to the radio at all, chances are you have seen or heard "I Should Be Sleeping," the upbeat debut single from the group, Emerson Drive. The six-man band from Canada will appear at the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) on Tuesday, November 19th.

Formerly known as 12 Gauge, Emerson Drive got started when they got together for a talent show in February 1995 at St. Joseph Catholic High School in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. The sextet renamed itself Emerson Drive, after the Emerson Trail, which crosses western Alberta and joins the Alaskan Highway, and hit the road in an old bus to perform throughout Canada. When they arrived in Nashville six years later, both the harmonies and instrumentation were finely honed.

The group's self-titled debut album was released in April and includes the top 5 hits, "I Should Be Sleeping," and "Fall Into Me." This past September, Emerson Drive was nominated for five Canadian County Music Association (CCMA) awards and took home the awards for Best New Group and Rising Star.

Emerson Drive will give a standing room only performance at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19th in Oyate Hall in the UMM Student Center. Tickets are $5 for community members and are available at the Office of Student Activites. Special needs seating is available. Call (320) 589-6080 for more information.

The performance is co-sponsored by the UMM Campus Activities Council Concerts Committee and KKOK, The Prairie's Hit County, 95.7 FM.
