Monday, April 7, 2003 7:00 P.M. at the Newman Center, 306 East 4th Street, Morris.
Area residents are cordially invited to the third session of the 27th Midwest Philosophy Colloquium, on the overall theme of Free Will and Moral Responsibility.
Marina Oshana, associate professor of philosophy, Bowling Green State University, Ohio, will present "Autonomy and Free Will" at 7 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the Newman Center, 306 East 4th Street, Morris.
Appealing to cases of addiction, wanton behavior, and weakness of will, Professor Oshana will argue that a person can act with the sort of freedom required for moral responsibility even if that person is not an autonomous agent.
Oshana will also present a paper, "Responsibility and Reasons-Responsiveness," at 2:30 p.m. the same day in the Prairie Lounge, UMM Student Center. All are cordially invited.
These lectures are made possible by a grant from the Minnesota Humanities Commission in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Minnesota State Legislature, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Dean, UMM.
