UMM Honors Faculty, Staff, and Retiree Donors

Earth Day, April 22, 2003 at UMM

On Earth Day, April 22, 2003, University of Minnesota faculty and staff will be recognized for their contributions to the University and their private financial giving through Campaign Minnesota, a comprehensive multi-year effort to raise money for scholarships, faculty support, and educational priorities across the entire University system. Crookston, Duluth, Morris and Twin Cities campuses will each host their own gatherings under one common theme: "You are the roots that help us grow."

On the UMM campus, faculty, staff and retirees are invited to an 8:30 a.m. tree planting ceremony on the campus mall. A Redmond Linden tree will be planted outside of the northeast entrance of the student center in honor of UMM's Campaign Minnesota donors. A plaque commemorating the significant contributions faculty, staff and retirees have made to UMM through their private Campaign Minnesota gifts will be placed near the tree.

Maddy Maxeiner, Campaign Minnesota executive director and associate vice chancellor for external relations, states: "Our faculty, staff, and retiree donors contribute twice to this Campaign. First, through their daily efforts to make UMM a vibrant teaching and learning community; and second, when they choose to invest their personal financial resources in key areas of campus importance. The gifts of our faculty, staff and retirees are a remarkable statement of support. We think it's important to honor their gifts and to publicly recognize the strength that comes from within our own community."

The brief program on April 22 will include comments by Campaign Minnesota Faculty and Staff Volunteer Committee Co-chairs Jane Kill and Jooinn Lee, and Chancellor Sam Schuman. The University of Minnesota Foundation will express its gratitude to all Campaign Minnesota faculty, staff and retiree donors by presenting a maroon and gold plant to each donor as a token of appreciation. The plants have been donated to the University.

Campaign Minnesota is a University of Minnesota fundraising effort focused on raising private gifts and pledges for several distinct purposes that include scholarships and other student support; faculty and student research and development; campus resources and strategic investments. UMM's goal within the University-wide fundraising goal was $6 million. UMM has surpassed its campus goal with a total of $7.5 million raised to date. Campaign Minnesota ends on June 30, 2003. Questions about Campaign Minnesota may be directed to Madeline Maxeiner, associate vice chancellor for external relations, 320-589-6386.
