June 9-10, 2003 at UMM.
Courses for the 2003 Henjum Creative Study Institute to be held in June at the University of Minnesota, Morris have been announced by Institute Director Tom Turner. This summer's offerings include raku pottery, jazz ensemble, vocal music, theater arts, creative writing, web design, alternative photography, printmaking, radio broadcasting, and two new courses in mask performance and computer art. The Institute will be held from June 9 - 20, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., and is open to students currently in grades 6-12. All interested students are invited to attend.
Now celebrating its 30th year, the Institute offers motivated students a unique summer learning adventure where they can focus on two subjects of special interest to them. Outstanding teachers and the facilities of the University of Minnesota, Morris provide an environment where students create, explore, interact and expand their perspectives. Equally important to the classes students take is the social interaction that occurs-lifelong friendships are made at the Institute when students connect with others who share their interests.
The Institute is sponsored by Continuing Education at UMM with the cooperation and support of area schools. Cost for the Institute is $180, plus a materials fee for the art courses.
This year transportation will be available on two routes by regional bus service providers. The first route will pick up and deliver students from the following communities: Alexandria, Glenwood, Starbuck and Cyrus. A second route will transport students to and from Appleton, Holloway, Benson and Hancock. Transportation on these two routes is provided at a minimal fee of $65 per student for the two weeks.
Registrations will be accepted through May 16. Students may obtain registration materials from their school counselor or principal, or by contacting Jacki Anderson, UMM Continuing Education at (320) 589-6456; toll-free 1-800-842-0030, or e-mail andersjs@morris.umn.edu.
