Class Excuse Policy

Here is a brief list of the occasions when it is appropriate to send students to 3rd Floor Behmler to get a class excuse:

FROM Rebecca Webb:

INDIVIDUAL participation in academic activities in conjunction with UMM coursework requiring time away from campus*
INDIVIDUAL participation in athletic activities in conjunction with a UMM sports team requiring time away from campus.*
University governance (Regents, Senate)

* If the student is part of a TEAM, he/she should NOT come to the Chancellor's Office. Rather, the adviser/instructor/coach should submit one excuse request for the entire team.

FROM Carrie Grussing:

Extreme illness in the family**

Death in the family (Funeral)

National Guard or other military duty

Jury duty or other Court appearances

** If the STUDENT is ill, he/she should obtain an excuse from HEALTH SERVICES.

All other instances are at the instructor's discretion. To avoid bouncing students back and forth between instructors and administration, if a student is sent to 3rd Floor Behmler to get an excuse for reasons other than listed above, we will assume that you denied the student's request and s/he wishes to speak with your supervisor to appeal the decision.
