Students, faculty, and staff encouraged to participate in the 2010 Census

Posted by Judy Korn on Friday, Mar. 19, 2010

On April 1, 2010, all of us at the University of Minnesota, Morris will be counted in the 2010 Census—United States (U.S.) citizens, international students, and other residents. Your participation is vital. Census data affects college and university tuition grant and loan programs. The census is used to determine representation in the House of Representatives and helps determine federal funding to states and communities.

The census form takes about 10 minutes to complete. All of the information gathered is confidential.

For students:

• If you live off campus: 2010 Census forms will be delivered to your residence in the second half of March. All students living at the same address are considered one household, so only one form, including information about all the people living at that address, should be completed. Return the form in the U.S. mail envelope provided.

• If you commute to school and live full-time at your parents or guardians’ household: You should be counted on your parents or guardians’ household form.

• If you live in a residence hall or on-campus apartment: Community Advisers and census staff will work together to count you, beginning April 1.

• If you are studying or living abroad on April 1: You will not be counted in the 2010 census. The census is a count of everyone in the U.S. on April 1, 2010.

Census 2010 has created a fact sheet for college and university students.

For faculty and staff:

• If you are studying, traveling, or living abroad on April 1: You will not be counted in the 2010 census. The census is a count of everyone in the U.S. on April 1, 2010.
