2010 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition features 31 student artists

Work by both art and non-art majors will be on view during the 2010 Juried Student Art Exhibition in the Humanities Fine Arts Gallery at the University of Minnesota, Morris. An opening reception will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 25. The show runs March 25 through April 17. In addition to a rich variety of two-dimensional works, such as drawings, paintings, photos, and prints, the exhibition also includes exquisite mixed-media works, book arts, sculpture, and ceramic pieces.

“It is great to have such a quality show of this size,” says Michael Eble, associate professor of studio art and gallery curator. “Each medium within the Morris studio art discipline is well represented.”

Andrew Nordin served as impartial juror for the student art submitted for the annual student exhibition. Nordin selected 79 pieces by 31 artists to enter into the exhibition, making this student show one of the most competitive in recent years.

Nordin earned a master of fine arts in pictorial arts from San Jose State University in California, and a bachelor of arts in painting and graphic design at St. Cloud State University. Nordin began his study of art at Ridgewater College, where he now serves as an art instructor. He is also an adjunct instructor at St. Cloud State University. He has worked at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, and at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as a museum professional. Nordin’s works have been shown regionally and several of his paintings can be seen in the collections of Ridgewater College and St. Cloud State University. He and wife Lisa open their New London home for “ARThouse,” a phantom exhibition event space.

The Humanities Fine Arts Gallery hours are 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. from Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, and 1 until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
