Bremer appears in Ibsen's John Gabriel Borkman

Posted by Judy Korn on Sunday, Apr. 18, 2010

Siobhan Bremer, associate professor of theatre, leads as Gunhild Borkman in Henrik Ibsen’s play, John Gabriel Borkman, at the professional Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro. Held in conjunction with an Ibsen Festival, The Commonweal Theatre is the only North America theatre committed to producing an Ibsen play each year. The production opened April 9 and continues through June 11, 2010.

Bremer plays the harsh and resentful wife of John Gabriel Borkman, a banker caught embezzling money and sent to prison, destroying both family reputation and wealth. Reviews have noted the quality of acting, the “ripped from the headlines” timeliness of the plot, and the timelessness of Ibsen’s characters.

On sabbatical with a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council through the Mcknight Foundation, Bremer directed Love Song for Winona State University’s Theatre and Dance Department last fall and will direct The Rabbit Hole at The Barn Theatre in Willmar late summer.
