October Soup and Substance to focus on arts funding
Posted by Judy Korn on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010
The University of Minnesota, Morris will host its monthly Soup & Substance discussion on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at 6 p.m. in the Student Center’s Prairie Lounge. The event provides an open forum for members of the campus and community to discuss issues of local, national, and international importance, particularly issues related to privilege and oppression. Soup & Substance pairs a delicious free meal with a meaningful discussion. The October gathering will address art funding, an important current issue in Minnesota.
“For some decision makers in education, arts is an extra for the ‘elite,’” says Athena Kildegaard, Morris Area Art Boosters president and English teaching specialist at UMM, “but the fact is that the arts are essential for everyone.”
This month hosted by the Meiningens student theatre organization, the Improv Club student improvisation organization, and the Office of Community Engagement, Soup & Substance is open to all who wish to share their opinions and experiences. Everyone is welcome to join the discussion and enjoy a free meal.
