Pharmacists Mutual Companies has named 2001 University of Minnesota, Morris graduate Sarah Sjogren Leslie the 2011 Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year in Minnesota. The prestigious award was conferred on the New Ulm pharmacist at a recent meeting of the Minnesota Pharmacists Association.
“I really enjoy working in rural health and hope that this award demonstrates that one’s scope of practice is not limited by one’s location,” shares Leslie. “During my years at Morris, I was encouraged by my professors, especially Leslie Meek, professor of psychology, to seek out opportunities and blaze new trails. I’m proud to represent Morris.”
Leslie has been employed at New Ulm Medical Center for three years. At Morris, she majored in psychology and minored in English. She earned a doctor of pharmacology degree from the University of South Carolina.
The Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year award is presented annually to a pharmacist in each state for individual excellence and outstanding contributions in state pharmacy association activities, community affairs, and in professional practice.
