Statistics major Jessica Orth ’12, Sleepy Eye, has received the Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship for Women in Graduate Statistics Programs. Established in 1989, the scholarship is awarded to encourage women to enter statistically oriented professions. It will be awarded at the 2012 Joint Statistical Meeting of the American Statistical Association at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 8 p.m.
For Orth, winning the Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship is not only a matter of personal recognition, but recognition of the University of Minnesota, Morris for “the excellent education this institution provides for its students.”
“It is a true honor to receive this award, and it is an accomplishment I credit to the outstanding statistics discipline at UMM for providing me with learning experiences both inside and out of the classroom,” says Orth.
Orth’s achievement will have a lasting impact on her future career, allowing her to network with other statisticians at the July awards ceremony.
