Posted by Cassie Hall '13, Brookings, SD on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012

Event Date/Time: Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 12:00 pm
End Date/Time: Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 3:00 pm
Location: Oyate Hall

The Briggs Library Associates Annual Book Sale will be held in the Student Center’s Oyate Hall on Thursday, October 18, from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday, October 19, from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. This year will be a “record breaking year” in the sense that over 14,000 items will be offered.

A wide variety of fiction and nonfiction books will be sold—hardcover books for $1.00, paperbacks for $0.50. This year the sale is especially strong in the areas of literature, film studies, and art as well as children’s literature. Videos, DVDs, and CDs will also be sold, and there will be multiple tables of free items as well as a silent auction. Library Associates annual memberships will be available for purchase as well. All proceeds from the sale will benefit Rodney A. Briggs Library.

Briggs Library Director LeAnn Dean can still remember the very first sale. “That first year, the three- hour sale was held on the paved veranda between the library and the Student Center on a cold and windy day,” says Dean. “Since that time, it has grown so that we fill Oyate with books, and people have a pleasant experience browsing through the tables, sipping on the complimentary coffee. So, for me, it’s a very busy, but very enjoyable two days as we watch people, especially students, build personal libraries inexpensively.”

Dean also noted how grateful the library is for all the donations from Morris and community residents that make this sale possible, and for all the volunteer hours devoted to planning and managing the sale.

For more information, please contact Dean at 320-589-6226. Free parking will be available in the North Lot on campus. Scanners and book carts are not allowed.
