James Sewell Ballet Brings Dance Macabre to Morris

Posted by Jenna Ray on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012

Event Date/Time: Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 7:30 pm
Location: Edson Auditorium

The second event in Morris’s annual Performing Arts Series—James Sewell Ballet’s Dance Macabre—will take the stage on Friday, October 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Edson Auditorium. Inspired by the tales of Edgar Allan Poe, the ghost ballet Giselle Pas De Deux, and the company’s own favorite daydreams and nightmares, Dance Macabre promises an evening of beauty and the dark side. All are welcome to attend this early celebration of All Hallows' Eve.

Known for performing innovative work that explores the technical boundaries of ballet, James Sewell Ballet (JSB) was founded by James Sewell and Sally Rousse in New York City and later brought to Minnesota. JSB creates and performs contemporary ballet in its home city of Minneapolis and has performed at more than 300 domestic and international venues since its founding in 1990.

The company will lead a ballet master class on Thursday, October 18, from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. in Humanities Fine Arts 125. This class is free and open to the public.

Dance Macabre will be presented in lieu of Neos Dance Theatre’s Count—The Legend of Dracula, the tour for which has been cancelled.

Single-event and season tickets are available for purchase online, by phone and mail, or in person at the Office of Student Activities, Conferences, and Special Events. Further information regarding ticket sales and the Performing Arts Series is available online or by calling 320-589-6077.
