The University of Minnesota, Morris announces an entirely new Achievement Scholarship program for incoming students. The new program not only includes awards of higher amounts than those offered previously, but also bases award decisions on a wider variety of academic factors.
All first-year students who submit an application to Morris are automatically considered for an Achievement Scholarship package that ranges from $4,000 to $18,000 disbursement over the course of four years. Achievement Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments at the time of application.
"This system considers students' academic achievements in all aspects," says Bryan Herrmann, director of admissions. "The new system will benefit all incoming students, but it will prove especially beneficial to students who attend small and competitive high schools."
Due in large part to its generous scholarship packages, Morris is known for providing excellent academics at an affordable price. According to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, Morris students graduate with one of the lowest debt levels in the Midwest. The college remains, however, the most highly rated of all public institutions in Minnesota by Forbes’s “America’s Top Colleges” list. Each year over 90 percent of Morris students receive some form of financial aid.
Incoming first-year students are also invited to compete for additional competitive scholarship packages. In order to be considered, students must submit the competitive scholarship essay and application as well as an application for admission and required materials by Saturday, December 15, 2012.
