Event Date/Time: Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 7:30 pm
Location: Edson Auditorium

The University of Minnesota, Morris will host Christian Lander and Elon James White in a convocation on Tuesday, February 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center’s Edson Auditorium. Lander, creator of the pop culture phenomenon Stuff White People Like, and White, the award-winning creator of This Week in Blackness, address the question of what it means to be “post-racial" in their Post Racial Comedy Tour.

In this unique event, both Lander and White address sensitive issues of race head-on, but with a healthy dose of humor. Each comedian gives a separate talk from his own perspective, and for the finale, the two join together on stage to answer questions posed by the audience. Together, the duo claims to eradicate racism wherever it goes.

Lander is the creator of the blog Stuff White People Like, which attracted over 11 million hits in two months. Lander’s website includes a full list of this “stuff,” which ranges from Moleskine Notebooks to scarves, from musical comedy to David Sedaris. The blog later inspired the books Stuff White People Like: A Guide to the Unique Taste of Millions and Whiter Shades of Pale: The Stuff White People Like from Coast to Coast, from Seattle’s Sweaters to Maine’s Microbrews. Lander was born and raised in Toronto. After spending eight years in academia, he moved to Los Angeles to work in the interactive industry.

White is a Brooklyn-based comedian, writer, and creator of the award-winning web series This Week in Blackness, which provides a satirical look at race, politics, and pop-culture in a so-called “post-racial” America, as well as the award-winning podcast Blacking it Up! White’s commentaries on race and politics have been featured on several media outlets, including The Huffington Post, Alternet, and The Root. White has been featured in the New York Observer, New York Post, Gothamist, Newsweek, and Gawker and has appeared on ComedyCentral.com and Sirius Satellite Radio. White’s live stand-up appearances include the DC Comedy Festival, the NY Underground Festival, and New York University.

This event is co-sponsored by the Campus Activities Council (CAC) Convocations Committee, World Touch Cultural Heritage Week, and Black Student Union.
