Artwork by students at the University of Minnesota, Morris will be on display during the 2013 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition in the Humanities Fine Arts (HFA) Gallery. This year’s student show features a comprehensive assortment of media, with an emphasis on ceramic works. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, March 28, from 7 until 9 p.m. The exhibition runs March 28–April 13, 2013.

The show’s rich variety of two-dimensional works, including drawings, paintings, photos and prints, is balanced by a variety of sculptural and ceramic forms. Only 25 of the 141 submitted pieces were chosen for display, making this student show highly competitive. As is tradition for the student art exhibition, the HFA Gallery has asked a guest jury to select the featured works. This year’s jury is Eric Crosby.

Crosby is an assistant curator of visual arts at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, where he has been on staff since 2009. A graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, he is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Crosby’s current areas of research include developments in contemporary abstract painting as well as artists’ cinema and interdisciplinary practice of the 1960s and 1970s. He recently published an essay on the work of Swedish artists Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg in Parkett. Crosby is co-curator of the current Walker group show Painter Painter.

The HFA Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturday from 1 until 4 p.m. For more information, please contact Michael Eble, HFA Gallery curator, at 320-589-6285 or meble@morris.umn.edu.
