Zenon Dance Company will perform on Saturday, November 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center’s Edson Auditorium. As both an internationally renowned dance group and a leader in dance education, Zenon promises a captivating stage experience. This will be the third performance in the University of Minnesota, Morris’s 2013-14 Performing Arts Series.
One of the nation’s premier repertory dance companies, Zenon captivates audiences with a rare and dynamic blend of modern and jazz dance. Under the direction of Linda Andrews, one of the most powerful choreographic voices in Minnesota, Zenon continues to build its eclectic repertory by commissioning significant works from such acclaimed American choreographers as Bill T. Jones, Doug Varone, Bebe Miller, Tere O’Connor, Danny Buraczeski, and Sean Curran. The company has gained critical acclaim from the New York Times, Minneapolis Star Tribune, and Dance Magazine, and its dance school was rated “Best Place to Learn to Dance” by City Pages in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011.
Prior to its Saturday performance, the company will provide several free dance classes on campus. They will offer a jazz class on Thursday, October 31, from 2-3:15 p.m. and a modern/contact work class from 3:30-5 p.m. in Humanities Fine Arts 125. On Friday, November 1, Zenon will offer classes for students in grades 3–5 from 4:15-5 p.m., grades 6–9 from 5-5:45 p.m., and in grade 10–adult from 5:45-6:45 p.m. in the Student Center’s Oyate Hall. All are welcome, but class space is limited. Contact Stephanie Ferrian at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a spot. Participants can join without a reservation until classes reach capacity.
