Location: Edward J. and Helen Jane Morrison Gallery
The University of Minnesota, Morris Edward J. & Helen Jane Morrison Gallery proudly presents ARTIST, TEACHER, SCHOLAR, an exhibition featuring the work of Morris studio art faculty members. An exhibit of this kind provides an opportunity for students, colleagues, and visitors to look into the minds and artistic activities of those in the studio art discipline. ARTIST, TEACHER, SCHOLAR runs from Friday, January 17, until Thursday, March 6.
Work by current members of the discipline spans the breadth of media from painting, drawings, and prints to textile, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, and combinations of media. Faculty presenting include Anne Barber, assistant professor of studio art, Michael Eble, associate professor of studio art/curator of the Edward J. & Helen Jane Morrison Gallery, Kevin Flicker, teaching specialist, Jess Larson, professor of studio art, Tracy Otten, associate professor of studio art, Theresa Peper, teaching specialist, and Gary Wahl, assistant professor of studio art.
“The title of the exhibit refers to the combination of roles studio art faculty take on throughout their academic careers,” says Eble. “We are often viewed as just teachers of art, but in reality, we are practicing artists with research agendas and professional demands. It’s nice to have an event that celebrates and acknowledges the hours of work done outside of the peripheral view of university classes and meetings.”
The opening reception for ARTIST, TEACHER, SCHOLAR will be held on Thursday, January 23, at 7 p.m. in the Morrison Gallery. An additional artist lecture series has been scheduled to correspond with the run of the exhibition. These lectures will be held on Thursdays in the Edward J. & Helen Jane Morrison Gallery:
Thursday, January 30, 12–1 p.m., Anne Barber/Jess Larson
Thursday, February 13, 12–1 p.m., Michael Eble/Tracy Otten
Thursday, February 27, 12–1 p.m., Kevin Flicker/Gary Wahl
The Edward J. and Helen Jane Morrison Gallery is open from 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Friday, and from 1–5 p.m. Saturday. For more information, contact Eble at 320-589-6285 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
