Amy Balk named Cougar women's basketball assistant coach

Tim Grove, head women’s basketball coach at the University of Minnesota, Morris, has announced that Amy Balk has been hired as the new women’s basketball assistant coach for the Cougars.

A 2005 graduate of the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kan., Balk received her bachelor’s degree in sports management with minors in general business and coaching.

A native of Mora, Balk was the assistant women’s basketball coach at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan., this past season. She was also an assistant coach at USM in Leavenworth, Kan., from 2004-2006.

Balk played collegiate basketball at Dakota State University in Madison, S. D., from 2000-2003 and was a member of the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth basketball team for the 2003-2004 season.

Grove said, “Amy is an excellent addition to our women's basketball program. She has the experience and knowledge needed to help us continue making strides to a championship level.”

Balk will also serve as the head coach for the Cougar men’s and women’s tennis programs.
