University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) student Matthew Gravelle won third prize in the student poster competition at the 14th Conference on Trends in Computational Chemistry (CCTCC) held in November in Jackson, Miss. An international event that welcomed scientists from all over Europe, Canada, Mexico and the U.S., the conference's 100-plus submitted posters included about 60 from students.
Gravelle was the only undergraduate student to present his results. His project began in January 2005, first through an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Project at UMM, then as a summer research assistantship in a Grant-in-Aid, with UMM Assistant Professor of Physics Sylke Boyd. View his poster, titled "A Computer Study of Point Defects in the RDX Crystal," outside of Sci2315. More about the conference at http://cctcc.ccmsi.us/index.html.
