Event Date/Time: Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 3:00 pm
Location: HFA Recital Hall
The University of Minnesota Morris Symphonic Winds will present its first performance in 2009 on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall on the Morris campus.
The program will consist of a "multimedia performance," featuring a chronological presentation of John Williams' renowned music from the George Lucas' epic “Star Wars” film series. The musical element, performed live by the Symphonic Winds and conducted by Dr. Martin H. Seggelke, will be accompanied by a visual presentation to include various scenes from the “Star Wars” films, as they correlate (in real time) to the music of the ensemble.
The UMM Symphonic Winds is comprised of approximately 70 musicians, both music majors and non-majors, who join together to perform numerous concerts on campus during each academic year. While offering students opportunities to expand their technical, intellectual and musical horizons, the UMM Symphonic Winds seeks to broaden performance and teaching skills by cultivating an interest in the wind ensemble as an integral part of the American music scene.
Tickets for the event will be sold at the door, with reserved tickets available for purchase in advance at the information desk in the UMM Student Center. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children and $1 for students with UMM ID. A reception of punch and cookies will follow the concert at no additional cost. For further information, contact the Morris campus Music Office at (320) 589-6234.
