Thirteen Morris faculty receive Imagine Fund Awards

Thirteen Morris faculty have received 2009 University of Minnesota Imagine Fund Awards. The Imagine Fund is supported by the McKnight Foundation to support research, projects and creative works in the Humanities.

Recipients with their projects are: Michael Eble, studio art-An Aerial Perspective, Michael Lackey, English-Modernist God States: A Literary Study of the Theological Origins of Totalitarianism, Jennifer Deane, history-Monograph on Medieval Heresy and Inquisition, James Schryver, art history-Irish Castles and Islamic Gardens, Jess Larson, studio art-Look and Learn, Little Girl, Bradley Deane, English-Better Men: British Masculinity and Popular Culture in the Age of the New Imperialism, Ray Schultz, theatre arts-Terrence McNally: A Playwright That Happens to be Gay, Christopher Miller, English-British Literature and the Rise of Psychoanalysis, Mark Collier, philosophy-Morality and Self-Interest: David Hume and Adam Smith on the Psychological Foundation of Economic Cooperation, Julie Eckerle, English-Romancing the Self: A Study of Early Modern Englishwomen's Life Writing, Pieranna Garavaso, philosophy-Frege's Thinking, Martin Seggelke, music-WASBE Conference Presentation, and Tisha Turk, English -The Rhetoric of Vidding: Arguments and Audiences.

"The Grants Development Office is pleased that the work of so many Morris faculty members has been recognized through the Imagine Fund awards," said Chris Wing, associate director of Grants Development. "A primary goal of the program is to raise the status of the arts and humanities disciplines on the University's campuses through recognizing the value of the research and creative works they do. The Imagine Fund will allow many of our faculty to work towards completing books, creative projects and research. The Fund also provides an opportunity to celebrate the great work happening in the humanities on our campus."

University of Minnesota systemwide, 217 awards, representing $651,000 in support for research in the arts, design and the humanities were given in 2009.
