Am I an international student?

An international student is defined as any student who is not a permanent resident of the United States . If you attended secondary school outside the U.S. you are not considered international if you have U.S. citizenship.

What percentage of UMM's students are international?

UMM has a diversity student body with 15% student of color. The international student population is currently about 1% and students come from 14 countries.

 

What can I study at UMM?

UMM has 30 academic majors and 8 pre-professional programs spanning the arts, sciences, humanities, social sciences, and physical sciences. UMM offers only undergraduate degrees.

What are the costs of attending UMM?

Tuition, fees, room and board for international students is the same as a U.S. student.

Does UMM offer financial aid to international students?

No. International students are not eligible for scholarships or financial aid from UMM. International students must be able to show that they can afford $23,400 a year to attend UMM.

What standardized tests are required of International Students for Admission?

All non native English speakers must take the TOEFL exam. Our minimum TOEFL scores are: 550 paper based, 213 computer, and 79 internet. UMM will also accept the SAT or the IELTS with a minimum score of a 5.5 in place of the TOEFL and at least a 530 Verbal on the SAT.

What type of special support or international organizations does UMM have for international students?

The Center for International Programs provides academic and advising support for students on campus. UMM has nearly 100 student clubs and organizations for students to be involved with.

Am I guaranteed housing on-campus as an international student?

Yes. All new students are guaranteed housing at UMM and over 95% of first year students live on campus. To engage in the full UMM experience we encourage international students to live in the traditional residence halls on campus.

How do I apply to UMM?

International students need to apply for admission online. The application fee is $75 and can not be waived.

What other information do you need with my application?

1. Official TOEFL, SAT or IELTS Exam scores.

2. The Financial Certification Form. You must provide proof of your ability to cover the annual cost of education at UMM, which amounts to approximately $23,000. The Financial Certification Statement form is available to download here.

3. An OFFICIAL, CERTIFIED copy of your Secondary School and/or College report/transcript must be sent directly from the school to our office with a certified English translation if they are not originally written in English (photocopies and those not sent directly from the school will not be accepted).

*Residents of West Africa should note that all transcripts must come from the West African Examination Board. This process can take up to TWO months.

**Residents of Kenya should note that all transcripts must come from the Kenyan National Examinations Council. This process can take up to TWO months.

Application Deadlines

UMM reviews application for admission once all materials have been received. In order to be considered for admission a completed application and all necessary application materials must be turned in prior to the deadline.
