Advantages of a Liberal Arts Education

We have shaped our liberal arts curriculum to prepare students for a lifetime of continuous learning by giving them the skills, tools, and encouragement they need to succeed. In our classrooms students sharpen their skills of inquiry, research, analysis and communication while learning to place individual subjects into larger contexts.

Students participate in a faculty-developed curriculum that combines traditional, interdisciplinary, and experiential modes of learning together with the creative application of advanced technologies to prepare them for graduate study, successful careers, and rewarding lives.

The relationship between students and faculty constitutes the foundation on which our solid curriculum is built. Forged by involvement, dialogue, and mutual respect, this unique bond remains a significant component of UMM's vision; a vision shared by each level of the campus—from students to administrators. All believe that rigorous study in a supportive community that encourages individualism builds inquiring, intelligent minds. Faculty members will test and sharpen the thoughts and opinions held by the students; as a result, students will learn to communicate ideas clearly, defend those ideas thoughtfully, and discuss ideas and topics with others respectfully. When students graduate from UMM, they will have acquired a strong liberal arts background that will allow them to function successfully in tomorrow's world.

A liberal arts education provides the foundation to define and pursue career goals as changes occur. That's why a UMM liberal arts education pays dividends into the future.
