Automatic First-Year Scholarships

The following scholarships are automatic for entering first-year students based on their high school class rank (if applicable).  Students who are home-schooled or attend a non-ranking high school will be judged on additional criteria.  Scholarships are renewable for four years by maintaining a 2.5 GPA.

HS Class Rank Scholarship Name Scholarship Value
Top 5% Chancellor's Scholarship $14,000 ($3,500 / year for 4 years)
Top 10% Dean's Scholarship $10,000 ($2,500 / year for 4 years)
Top 20% Associate's Scholarship $4,000 ($1,000 / year for 4 years)

No additional application is required to receive the Automatic Academic Scholarship. The Admissions Committee awards the above scholarships after reviewing the student's academic credentials provided with their application for admission. Recipients of the Automatic Academic Scholarship will be notified by mail with their admission decision. These scholarships may not be combined with the Prairie Scholar Award, the Morris Scholar Award or the National Merit Scholar Winners.

National Merit Scholarships

National Merit Scholarships are awarded upon admission throughout the year to students who document and verify their National Merit Scholar status. The amount of the award is based on the following criteria:

National Merit Scholarship Winners (selected from National Merit Finalists) who choose UMM as their first choice college will receive the full-tuition National Merit Scholarship.  This scholarship is renewable for four-years by maintaining a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5. Students must be enrolled for at least 12 credits.

Semi-Finalists and Commended Scholars named by the National Merit Corporation are eligible for a $4,000 scholarship distributed over four years ($1,000 per year).  Students must provide the Office of Admissions with documentation of their Commended or Semi-Finalist status to receive this award.  These awards are limited, and priority will be given to college freshmen who have confirmed their enrollment at UMM. Recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA to receive the scholarship in subsequent years.

Transfer Academic Scholarship

Students transferring to UMM from another college outside of the University of Minnesota system with 30 transferable credits and a 3.75 GPA qualify for a $2,000 non-renewable scholarship.  Those with at least a 3.5 GPA qualify for a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship to be used in their first year at UMM.
