Pre-Nursing
Students at UMM may either:
  • Complete their BA and then apply to the U of M Twin Cities nursing school for their accelerated nursing certificate program. This will take 5 yrs + 1 additional summer, but students will not only emerge as a certified nurse, but also have a prestigious UMM BA and be close to completing a masters degree in nursing.
  • Transfer to the Twin Cities BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing) program after completing pre-requisite courses at UMM. This latter option involves 2.5-3 years of coursework at UMM. After transferring to the Twin Cities campus, it takes three years to complete the BSN nursing program, so students will be in school approximately six years (longer than option 1), and will not have completed any of the requirements for a masters degree.

For students who complete a BA at UMM, the U of M Twin Cities offers a 16 month Post-Baccalaureate Nursing Certificate Program.
Admission to this program is competitive. Minimum college GPA to apply is 3.0. Average GPA of entering students is 3.5. While earning their BA at UMM, students need to complete all the pre-requisites for the BSN program (see below) plus a course in pathophysiology (U of M TC Lab Med. and Pathology 4177: Pathology for Allied Health Students) that can be taken at UMM via distance learning. Note that the prerequisite nutrition course must also be taken via distance learning (or in summer school in the Twin Cities).
Students who complete the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program will have completed many of the requirements for a masters in nursing, and most students continue on to obtain their masters degree.

For Students who wish to transfer to the BSN program after completing prerequisites at Morris.
This is a competitive program. Minimum GPA is 2.8 on prerequisite courses and 2.5 overall. In 2003, average GPA on prerequisite courses was 3.5, average cumulative GPA was 3.4.
