The Art of Bonsai - The technique of molding small trees into works of art is a unique way to enjoy not only the rewards of gardening but also the satisfaction of artistic expression. Bonsai experts, Pam and Bob Hampel from Hugo, Minn., share their love of this specialized garden style with host, Sue Gooch.

Hosta - Hostas are a favorite for many gardeners – easy to grow, great foliage, and outstanding selections. Jean Johnson, an Otter Tail County Master Gardener, gives host, Sue Gooch, a tour of her lakeside garden describing all you need to know to get started growing hostas.

Minnesota Wine Grapes - Recent releases of hardy grapes from the University of Minnesota, has resulted in vineyards and wineries popping up all across the northern parts of the US. Peter Hemstad, viticulturist at the University of Minnesota Horticultural Research Center in Victoria, MN explains how to grow cold hardy grapes, with special emphasis on those suitable for making wine.

Horticulture As Therapy - Jean Larson, horticulture therapist, discusses with host Sue Gooch ways to bring the joy of gardening to people of all abilities, young and old, active and not so active. This is a program not so much about plants, but about those who find great rewards in working with plants.

Gardening in a Container - Container gardening has evolved in recent years into a medium for real artistic expression. Duane Otto, the floral designer at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, joins host, Sue Gooch, to demonstrate and discuss not only the tricks but also the how and whys of creative floral displays in containers.

Hardy Shrub Roses - Bailey's Nurseries, widely known for their quality cold hardy plants, has recently introduced a new line of roses. Peggy Anne Montgomery from Bailey's joins host Sue Gooch at the Bailey's Trail Garden near Minneapolis to show off these spectacular new additions to the hardy plant palette.

Soil Basics - Soil, that dynamic substance in which plants grow, is more often than not misunderstood and neglected. Carl Rosen, Professor of Soil Science and Horticulture at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, discusses the properties of soil that ever gardener should be aware of that hopefully will make their gardening experience even more rewarding.

Attracting Hummingbirds - The high-energy hummingbird requires a plentiful supply of food from a wide variety of sources, many of which are readily available among our garden plants. Bernie Angus, a Master Gardener himself, shares his knowledge of this fascinating little bird with host, Sue Gooch, with particular emphasis on the specific plants these birds prefer.

Dwarf Conifers - Evergreens come in a wide range of sizes, but it is the small ones that can add some punch to your mixed flower garden or foundation planting. Nancy Rose, Horticulture Regional Extension Educator, leads us on a tour of the MN Landscape Arboretum's dwarf conifer collection.

The Foliage Garden - Making good use of foliage adds a whole new dimension to the garden. Whether it be color or texture, plant leaves have a profound effect on the overall garden design. Joining Host Sue Gooch to discuss this often overlooked element is Mary Meyer, U. of MN Assoc. Prof. of Horticulture.

Apple Pests - This favorite fruit attracts a number of pests that will dramatically reduce the quality and quantity of the crop. David Bedford from the Hort Research Center near Victoria, MN joins host Sue Gooch in the apple orchard to discuss the insects and diseases that damage apples.

Gardening Challenges - Between temperature extremes from hot to cold, varying amounts of moisture from floods to drought, and wind, the northern prairie offers unique garden challenges. Neil Holland owner of Sheyenne Gardens near Fargo, ND begs to differ, providing us with ways to deal with these harsher elements of nature and yet have a glorious garden.

Managing Weeds - Controlling weeds in the home landscape, whether it be dandelions or nuisance grasses, doesn't have to be an endless job. Larry Zilliox from Alexandria, MN, catches up with Host Sue Gooch to discuss common sense strategies for managing a variety of common weeds found in the yard and garden.
