Reaccreditation and self-study

The University of Minnesota, Morris is in the process of review for its 10-year accreditation by The Higher Learning Commission, an independent corporation of the North Central Association. The North Central Association is a membership organization of colleges and schools in 19 states, including Minnesota, whose purpose is to provide educational leadership to the region and the country. The responsibility for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions is now within the purview of The Higher Learning Commission whose mission statement is, ”Serving the common good by assuring and advancing the quality of higher learning.”

The Higher Learning Commission reviews the quality of an organization of higher learning using the five criteria for accreditation:

Each institution is required to engage in a self-study process and prepare a report of its findings in accordance with Commission expectations. The self-study process is intended to promote institutional improvement while also providing evidence to the Higher Learning Commission that the institution fulfills the criteria for accreditation. Over the past two years, the Self-Study Steering Committee and five subcommittees developed a self-study report. You may read the report either online or by downloading a pdf version.

Another component of the accreditation process is the comprehensive peer evaluation of the institution by a team of trained consultant-evaluators. On March 29, 30, and 31, 2010, a team of five consultant-evaluators from the Higher Learning Commission will visit the Morris campus to conduct that evaluation of the University of Minnesota, Morris. The team members are:

The team members will meet with many members of the campus community during their visit in order to gain a better understanding of our campus to evaluate how well the University of Minnesota, Morris fulfills the five criteria for accreditation. The schedule of the visit is available as a pdf file. After the visit, the team will submit a report containing their recommendations to the Higher Learning Commission.
