The Essential Deadline is; the last day to add classes, the last day to change from S/N grading to A/F (or vice versa), the last day to drop classes without a record on transcript, and the last day to change registration for financial aid eligibility. Also, the Spring semester Essential Deadline is the last day to apply for graduation.
2012–13 Registration Deadlines
Before dropping any classes, students should be aware that there might be ramifications. Check with the Financial Aid Office if you have questions about your aid or with the Business Office about tuition, fees, and refunds.
Important Note: All courses should be added on or before the essential deadline for financial aid eligibility—including second half semester classes, directed studies, internships, etc. Most cancel/add deadlines extend thru Sunday for web registration activity and are subject to system availability.

- * The following courses are open to enrollment after the deadline with instructor approval but must be submitted before the last day of classes for that semester.
- Directed Studies and Internships: to last day of instruction
- Out-of-sequence classes: to last day of instruction
- Senior Project/Seminar: to last day of instruction
- Some extended session courses may be approved
- Production or Performance Experience (Th 1060 or 1070): The list of students will be sent to the Scholastic Committee within one week of the auditions. Requests received after that date will not be approved.
- ** Withdrawals or dropping classes after the deadline and up until the last day of instruction.
- Students may use a one-time discretionary withdrawal up to the last day of instruction. Form is required.
- In accordance with the University of Minnesota Grading and Transcript Policy, students may withdraw for extenuating circumstances. Petition form and supporting documentation required.
- Students may completely cancel out of college up to the last day of classes. Form is required.
- No withdrawals are allowed after the last day of instruction.
Students will receive a “W’ symbol on their transcript. To obtain forms, go to the Office of the Registrar Forms page.
