Through the National Student Clearinghouse, the University of Minnesota provides instant electronic verification of graduates’ degrees and students’ enrollment to employers, employment agencies, credit card companies, background search firms, and various other businesses that offer products or services based on an individual’s status as an enrolled student or graduate. The service is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year.

For Students and Alumni: Verification requests
The University of Minnesota, Morris will mail an official letter free of charge for students and alumni. If a faxed letter is required, the charge is $10, payable at time of request, and includes a mailed letter and faxed copy to the same address. All mailed verification letters are sent via United States Postal Service first class mail.

Types of Verifications
Used to prove your enrollment status. The verification will include dates of enrollment, and if you were full-time, three-quarter time, half-time, or less than half-time for all terms you request.
Enrollment Status Defined for Fall, Spring, and Summer Terms.

|Three-quarter time student||9 to 11 credits|
|Half-time student||6 to 8 credits|
|Less than half-time student||6 or less credits|
|Senior||completed 90 or more credits|
|Junior||completed 60 to 89 credits|
|Sophomore||completed 30 to 59 credits|
|Freshman||completed 29 or less credits|
Independent Distance Learning courses count only for the term in which the registration took place.
Special Exams, Advanced Placement, CLEP, and IB (International Baccalaureate) do not count toward student’s enrollment status.
Good Student Discount
Companies may give discounts to students who maintain at least a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) for their most recently completed term. The verification will include the GPA from the most recently completed term of enrollment and enrollment status for that term.
Verifications are required for student loan deferment, especially for transfer students who received loans at previous institutions. The information provided will include the student’s social security number. Audit coursework registered under the grading basis “AUD” may not be used in credit totals for loan deferments.
Insurance companies may require proof of enrollment or grade point average (GPA) for certain types of eligibility. Many require verification of full-time or half-time status. The information provided will include the student’s social security number.
