When you think of residence halls, perhaps a building comes to mind. But, at Morris residence halls are much more—they are people living together, developing communities. As a resident you play a big part in shaping your community.
A community adviser (CA) lives on each floor and a hall director supervises the CA staff. Community Adviser are returning Morris students who work with residents to establish an environment, which maximizes personal growth and is conducive to academic success. Office of Residential Life staff members are available to help you get acquainted with other residents, plan activities and answer questions you may have about residence hall living or the campus in general.
Community Councils are formed in the residence halls to generate ideas for hall activities, services, facilities, and guidelines for an effective community.
Residence halls have floor lounges equipped with furniture for study and recreation as well as kitchenette areas. There are separate recreation areas with vending machines and various gaming tables. Washers and dryers are also available in each hall.
Each residence hall room and apartment is wired for telephone service including voicemail. One courtesy telephone for local service only is provided in a central location in each residence hall. Residence halls have televisions in the main lounges. Individual residence hall rooms and apartments include cable TV services with 40 basic channels and HBO.
Internet access is available in each room/apartment and lounge areas. The procedure for connecting to the network from your residence hall is described on the RESNET (Residential Network) website. For students who don’t own computers, the University’s Umart website makes several brands available for purchase at special educational discounts
Room furnishings for double rooms include twin-size bed frames, mattresses measuring 36” x 80” (twin long), drapes, desks, desk chairs and a dresser. Dishware, flatware, kitchen utensils and cookware are not provided in residence hall kitchens. Linens, blankets, pillows and bath towels are not included in the on-campus apartments or the residence halls.
