Position in Archaeology and Physical Anthropology
The University of Minnesota-Morris invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position (Ph.D. required at time
of application) in archaeology and physical anthropology beginning fall
semester, August 18, 2008. Teaching
responsibilities include an annual five-course (2/3) load.
Specialization and a research focus on either physical anthropology or archaeology required as teaching will include both sub-disciplines. Archaeological focus on the Western hemisphere is preferred, but not essential. The selected candidate will be expected to teach core undergraduate courses including a physical anthropology lab course, archaeology, and at some point may be expected to teach an introductory cultural anthropology course and first year seminar courses that focus on human diversity on a rotating basis. The physical anthropology lab course fulfills General Education science-lab requirements and must incorporate genetics, human variation, primatology, and human evolution. In addition, the successful applicant will develop additional courses in the area of specialization. Demonstrated excellence in teaching essential, an active research agenda and strong publication record preferred. The ideal candidate will have prior field experience and a commitment to develop field experiences for students in either archaeology or physical anthropology. UMM emphasizes close student-faculty relationships through involvement of students in directed studies, faculty-directed student research, and encourages study abroad experiences.

residential liberal arts college with selective admissions. UMM is rated among

archaeology sub-disciplines in a small major with a traditional emphasis on
