Scanner Instructions

One-Page Recommendations/Letters of Reference

(Please note: If your computer is left idle for 50 minutes, the computer will refresh and you will lose your information.)
  1. Put paper in the scanner. Press the scanner button.

  2. Scan button appears. Select "Photoshop" and click "Scan."

  3. Once the Photoshop launches, the "Scan Using Hewlett Packard Scan Jet 6300C" window will open. On the bottom left corner of the window, click on "adjust the quality of the scanned picture."

  4. The "advanced properties" window will open. In the "Resolution" box, type 100. In the "Picture type" box, chose "grayscale picture." Click "OK."

  5. You will now be returned to the scan window. Click the "scan" button in the bottom right corner.

  6. Image will scan.

  7. Once the image has loaded, click the "crop" button (third button down on the tool bar). Select the area that you want to keep in the image and hit enter to complete the crop. (Note: if image doesn’t look the way you want it to, you can select the “Undo” option under the Edit menu.)

  8. Go to the File drop down menu and choose “save as.” In the “save as” window that appears, type a name for your file into the “File name” text box. From the “Format” drop down menu, choose “Photoshop PDF (*.PDF, *.PDP). Next, select a destination to save your file. (If you save it to the desktop, you must mail it to yourself or you can save it to a floppy disk or a CD. (Note: the file may be too large for a floppy). After you have selected your destination, click the “save” button.

  9. In the PDF Options window that appears in the “Quality” box, type the number 5. Click “O.K.” (Now the file is saved for a one-page reference/recommendation).

  10. Put PDF file(s) in the “Trash/Recycling” and don’t forget to empty the “Trash/Recycling Bin.”

Two-page or Multiple Page (Up to Five Pages) Recommendations/Letter of Reference

  1. Launch “Adobe Acrobat Professional.”

  2. Go to the “File” menu and choose “Open.” In the “Open” window, navigate to the first page of your document and choose “Open.” (Find the first page of your compiled document … open in the order you want them.) (If an “Adobe Picture Tasks” window pops up, click “O.K.”

  3. On the document drop down menu, choose “Pages” and in the side menu that pops up, choose “Insert.”

  4. The “Select File to Insert” window will open, choose the next page of your document and click the “select” button.

  5. The “Insert Pages” window will open. Select the “Location” in your document you want to insert and click “O.K.”

  6. Once you have inserted all your pages, go to the “file” menu and choose “Save As” and in the “Save As” window that appears type a name for your file into the “File Name” text box. From the “Format” drop down menu, choose “Photoshop PDF (*.PDF, *.PDP). Next, select a destination to save your file. (If you save it to the desktop, you must mail it to yourself or you can save it to a floppy disk or a CD. (Note: the file may be too large for a floppy). After you have selected your destination, click the “save” button.

  7. Put PDF file(s) in the “Trash/Recycling” and don’t forget to empty the “Trash/Recycling Bin.”
