UMM Computer Science alum Dan Flies will be on campus talking about his experience in tech startups. Dan and Matt Hardy (also a UMM Computer Science alum) are the co-founders of the Kidblog start-up (http://kidblog.org/), which provides classroom oriented blogging tools aimed at the K-12 market. They currently have nearly 3 million students using their system from around a quarter of a million different classes worldwide. They were featured last year in a Minnesota Monthly piece highlighting several cool projects happening around the state.
This project started several years ago as a side gig, but last year they were able to raise enough VC funds that they both quit their "day jobs" and are doing Kidblog full time. They've hired on several additional folks since then, and are looking to hire additional people in the upcoming months.
Dan has just returned from Silicon Valley where he was raising new VC funds, and will be talking about the Kidblog experience and the whole tech startup world.
