What you will learn:

• How to develop an “elevator” pitch
• Recognizing the job search steps and your skills
• Become aware of 18 different ways of looking for a job
• Recognize the least and most effective ways to hunt for a job
• The importance of using more than one method for looking for employment
• Learn about the most common hiring methods by employers who hire
University of Minnesota graduates
• That most employers hunt for candidates in the exact opposite way from how
most job hunters hunt for them
• How to research employers using multiple resources, including social networking
platforms and job search websites
• How to set up “Job Agents”
• Learn about what information to look for in job search resources
• Employers who hire “Any Major” for jobs/internships
• How to use career fairs to obtain employment
• How to search for work in the “hidden job market”
• How to conduct informational interviews and create a network of job seekers
• How to use social media platforms to network
• If introverted or shy, how to use e-mail, blogs, and other Internet tools to apply for jobs
• How to use listserves groups and other Internet-based platforms to look for work
• How to use part-time and interim jobs while seeking full-time employment
• Types of part-time and interim jobs that allow time to continue to job search
• How to use temporary service firms
• Most effective job hunting strategies and attitudes that create resilience in the job search
• Understand rules for survival job hunting
• How to look for employment in other regions of the country/world
• Using mindfulness strategies in your career/job search
