Confidentiality -- Release of Information

Any student using UMM's Student Counseling service is guaranteed confidentiality of the information they share with counselors and the test center supervisor.

Students who would like their confidential information to be shared with a third party, i.e. their family physician, a new counselor or psychologist, faculty, or any other person, will be asked to complete and sign a Release of Information form. If you have questions about this form, or the process of releasing confidential information, please stop by Student Counseling, 235 Behmler Hall, or call 320-589-6060, and ask to talk to a counselor.

A counselor may break confidentiality in the event that he or she learns that the student is in imminent danger (such as imminent suicidal threat), the student has made an imminent threat against the life of another individual, or a child or vulnerable adult is being abused. The reason for such a break in confidentiality is for the safety of the student and/or others.
