Non-emergency information

Many students, and people in general, struggle with thoughts of suicide, especially individuals who also have depression and/or anxiety disorders. College students are faced with many challenges which can seem overwhelming. Suicidal ideation can meant that a person fantsizes about what it would be like to take control over life's chaos or sadness by ending it. Unfortunately, some in our society take suicidal ideation to the next level by making an attempt without first seeking help from a trained helping professional.

UMM students who experience suicidal ideation are encouraged to make an appointment with a UMM counselor to discuss their concerns. Counselors will help students assess their level of suicidal ideation and develop a plan for safety.
