Drop in rooms are available for subjects that Tutors are commonly requested for each semester. If the ongoing drop in tutoring sessions are not meeting your needs, you can request a tutor in a specific subject. Forms are available online and at the Academic Assistance Office, Briggs Library Room 328. We will arrange for you to meet a tutor at a time that fits your schedule. For best results, make your request during the first eight weeks of the semester. The tutors are UMM students who have been certified by faculty. Tutoring is free and requests can be made whenever the Library is open.

Peer Tutors are UMM students who work with other students (one-on-one or in groups) to help them understand course material, prepare for tests, or organize for final projects. Some tutors will assist students whose native language is not English. Tutors must be certified by faculty in the subjects they wish to tutor. Tutors serve as facilitators not teachers. Tutors receive training in methods that help students learn.

IS 3710 Peer Tutoring in College is a one credit course that is offered each semester. The course provides both theoretical tutor training and direct application of skills through weekly meetings. Students who are interested in either paid or volunteer Peer Tutoring are highly encouraged to register for this course.
