Students who are registered with Disability Services and receive accommodations for a note taker will be given access to notes on the web. To access notes you will need to use a computer that has the Kurzweil program on it. All campus computers available for student use have this program on them, allowing you easy access to the program and your notes. If you are not able to access your notes please contact the Center for Advising and Learning at x6178.
Before you are able to access notes on the web in Netfiles you will need to first activate your Netfiles account. This only needs to be done once.
Activating your Netfiles Account
Please go to this link https://www.umn.edu/dirtools log in and follow the directions below to activate your account.
From your MyAccount page
- Select NetFiles Account Options , located near the bottom of that page, under the section labeled Other Accounts .
- Read and follow directions on the page. Press Submit
You account is now active and you can now access your NetFiles account and within your account you will have access to the DS Class Notes file on Netfiles. Please follow the steps below to access your notes.
1.Open the Firefox web browser and type in the following URL:
netfiles.umn.edu

2. Login on the left navigation bar using your email address and your email password
3. On the left navigation bar under Bookmarks, select root, then umm
4. In the middle of the window select the folder DS Class Notes
5. You will see a list of classes. Click on your class name/number to bring up a list of class notes saved according to the dates that notes were taken. You will NOT need to go into the notes folder within the class folder. This folder is for office use only. |
6. Click on the date of the notes you wish to view. A small Kurzweil window will open. Select your course from the Kurzweil drop down menu. The class notes will open in a Kurzweil window.

7. To increase or decrease the size, go to the top of the screen and adjust using Zoom to select a new size.
8. To advance to the next page, use the Page buttons at the top of the screen.
9. When you have finished, be sure to log out of Netfiles by using the log out link on the top right of the left navigation bar. Close the Firefox web browser and Kurzweil. |
