Full Time Status/Part Time Enrollment
The following is the process for students who need to attend college part time, but retain their status as a full time student for insurance and financial aid purposes.
- Obtain a copy of the University of Minnesota Financial Aid Accommodations Certification
- Review the directions
- The student must be registered for a minimum of 6 credits but less than 12 credits. The cost of attendance will be adjusted from full time to part time. If a student’s scholarship is for a certain number of school terms, the part time status still applies as a term. By attending part time, the student could exhaust their scholarship prior to graduating.
- Students eligible for Federal Pell and/or MN State Grant will be paid for the number of credits they are registered for that term.
- Accommodation certification requests related to the reduced credit load will only be accepted by the Office of Student Finance until the end of the second week of each term.
- Certifications must be completed at the start of each term.
- Disability Services determines a reasonable accommodation, and completes the Financial Aid Accommodation Certification. This form is then sent to the Director of Financial Aid.
- A copy of the certification should be placed in the student’s file at Disability Services and a copy given to the student.
