Scholarships
The Nathaniel E. Williams Scholarship was established to celebrate the life of Nathaniel “Fish” Williams. Nathaniel had many passions, but foremost was a life-long love of fishing and the outdoors, and a life-long love of learning. While a student at UMM, Nathaniel frequently used the resources available to him through the Disability Services Office and the Academic Assistance Center.
Scholarship Description and Criteria
The scholarship will provide $2,000 to a new, incoming undergraduate student with a disability at the University of Minnesota, Morris campus.
The Nathaniel E. Williams Memorial Scholarship is a 4-year, $2,000 scholarship that is renewable for a total of up to 4 years under the following conditions:
- The student remains enrolled full-time at UMM.
- The student remains in good academic standing.
- The student continues to register with the Disability Services Office.
Applicants for the scholarship must:
- Be a first year or new incoming transfer student at the University of Minnesota, Morris
- Provide documentation and be registered with the Disability Services Office. Students with any type of disability (physical, psychiatric, learning or ADD/ADHD) are eligible for this scholarship.
Special consideration will be given to students who demonstrate an interest in outdoor activities, animal care or husbandry, land management, conservation activities or the natural environment. Strong candidates will demonstrate through their high school activities, volunteer work and school GPA, that they have academic promise.

Application materials will be made available in alternative formats upon request.
University of Minnesota, Morris students who are registered with Disability Services may apply for a scholarship to study abroad through the Access Abroad Program. Planning accessibility and accommodation abroad will require extra time and consultation. Students with disabilities planning to study abroad should also contact the UMM Center for International Programs to begin planning their trip 9 months to a year before the application deadline.
