Services Available

Before the semester begins:

• Prospective student visits
• Assistance with faculty contacts concerning classroom accommodations
• Advocacy for access needs
• Individualized building orientation tours
• Priority registration for qualified students
• Assistance verifying the availability of interpreter or captionist services through the Disability Services Office.
  
  NOTE: Inquiries related to the availability of interpreter or captionist services should be initiated several months prior to enrollment because of limited availability of services in this area.

In the Classroom:

• Assistance arranging for peer note taker OR permission for recorded lectures
• Access assistance for physical disabilities
  adjustable work stations, note takers or scribes
• Academic skills development classes (Academic Assistance Center/Student Support Services)
• Alternative print formats
• Classroom accommodations OR room rescheduling assistance

Out of the Classroom:

• Books and reading assignments in audio format
• Peer tutoring assistance (Academic Assistance Center)
• Alternative testing accommodations
• Advocacy for special needs
• Individual counseling and/or support groups
• TTY and amplified phones available in select locations on campus
• Specialized computer software
• Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) for students with low vision
• Consultation re: Adaptive Technology
• Large print encyclopedia, atlas and dictionary
• Assistance with the development of a transition packet for transfer students
• Assistance with on-campus housing needs
• Referral to outside agencies for additional services not available at UMM
• Interagency transition planning
