Students

UMM Disability Services is an advocacy office serving students who have diagnosed disabilities or students who may need to have a new condition diagnosed.

Students with disabilities have a legal right to accommodations that make learning and the college experience accessible to them. We in UMM Disability Services want to see you not only “survive” your first year, but succeed and thrive at UMM.

At UMM, students with disabilities are students first. Expect to take part in all aspects of academics and student life. Live in a residence hall. Join a club. Study abroad. And earn your degree at UMM.

College is different from high school. In fact, many new college students are surprised by the differences.

You have more unstructured time, but also a lot more studying to do. Your instructors expect a lot more from you than they did in high school. Plus, you may be living away from home for the first time. You may be facing a lot of new responsibilities and challenges.

Maybe you are a student with a diagnosed disability.

Maybe you are a student who doesn't consider yourself to be disabled but feels like you're facing barriers to learning and success that you have not faced before.

Maybe you injured yourself and are going to be laid up for awhile.

Disability Services is here to answer your questions and to help you navigate these new situations. We encourage you to contact our office, even if you choose not to pursue accommodation.

Best wishes,
Colleen Fey
